Known as the “Burgundy of the Mediterranean”, the wines of Sicily’s Mt. Etna region are astonishing in quality and elegance, with distinct personality created by its thoroughly unique active volcanic terroir.

In this in-depth 2.5-hour masterclass, our VIA Certified Italian Wine Educator Justin Chen will whisk you away on a rugged Italian journey to explore some of the most prestigious “contrada” (the local equivalent of “single vineyard” or “cru”) wines from Etna. Honing in on the contrade from the northern slope of Mt. Etna – the best location to produce the highest quality Enta rosso wines – you’ll taste the best of the best, with Guiadola, Rampante, Sciaranuova, Arcuria, Feudo di Mezzo, Pianodario and Chiappemacine (the “Grand Cru” of Etna) all in the line-up.  With their own unique characteristics resulting from a variety of terroirs ranging from altitudes of 500m to 1000m, different microclimates, meteorological exposure and soil composition, this is an unforgettable, eye-opening experience for Italian connoisseurs and Burgundy wine lovers as well!

• Justin founded Joy Palate Wine Academy in 2014 and had been the wine educator and wine consultant between Hong Kong and Guangzhou for the academy previously. He has a wide range of wine-related qualifications, including DipWSET, WSET Certified Educator, Knight of Truffle and Wine of Alba, and was awarded a Runner-up at the Hong Kong International Top Tasters Competition by The Drinks Business in 2016.
