About Jorge
Born in Porto, Portugal, in 1982, Jorge studied in his hometown until he decided to follow a 5 generations family tradition and go to Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro to study Oenology. He worked in various wineries in Portugal and in the Napa Valley, California.
Jorge joined Symington Family Estates in 2007 working in various key areas including wine making, tourism and sales. He is usually based in the Douro Valley for close to two months every year, assisting with the winemaking along with his fellow winemakers. This was one of the key factors that led Symington Family Estates to choose him as the Port representative in Asia in 2008, and in the US from 2010 onwards.
As of mid-2012, Jorge moved to Hong Kong, in order to be closer to the markets he manages, providing the right support and presence that these emerging markets demand. He is currently responsible for the Symington Family Estates portfolio of wines in Asia and Pacific regions. His role forms part of an important commitment to the Far East by the company, to help to improve the visibility and understanding of the company’s portfolio of premium positioned Port brands and Douro DOC wines.
