About Château Figeac

      1st vintage in 1943 by Thierry Manoncourt – “Pharaoh of Saint-Émilion”
      1st Jurat of Saint-Émilion in 1964 – 1988
      1st Right Bank producer to create 2nd Label – from La Grange Neuve de Figeac in 1945, to Petit Figeac in 2013
      1st  property to inspect each cork, before bottling since 2014

● ŸŸ Premier Grand Cru Classé (Class B)
●  The ancient estate’s roots can be traced back to the 2nd century
●  The largest estate in Saint-Émilion,with 40 hectares of vines
●  Made up of 3 superb hillocks, situated very close to Pomerol and next to Cheval Blanc
●  The finest gravel soils in Saint-Émilion-Pomerol – famous for the largest pebbles in the area
●  Allows high proportion of Cabernet in their blends – while Saint-Émilion is kingdom of Merlot
●  Variety Composition: 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Cabernet Franc, 30% Merlot
●  Average age of the vines: 40 years (with the oldest are 95 years old)

●  Vats: 12 are stainless steel and 10 are conical shaped oak tanks. Parcel by parcel vinification
●  Alcoholic fermentation in wood; the malolactic in stainless steel tanks
●  Since mid-1960s, aged in only 100% new barrels
●  In the past, equal portions of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Now, the blend varies from vintage to vintage

About Frédéric Faye

Frédéric Faye, an engineering graduate of Bordeaux’s ENITA, has been at FIGEAC since 2002, when he began as Vineyard Manager before being promoted to tManaging Director. He now has overall management of vineyard, wine-making and sales of the wines. His apppointment illustrated the family’s determination to continue and develop the scientific, qualitative approach to wine growing that had first driven FIGEAC’s success.
