Whisky Ambassador

Whisky Ambassador is now Live!

You will be delivered a comprehensive package of class materials, including course book, one Glencairn glass, six tasting samples, barley and peat samples. The course will be delivered via Zoom (protected by a log-in password) by Eddie Nara, an Approved Trainer of the WA program and an acclaimed whisky expert in Hong Kong.

A refresher session prior to the examination of 45 minutes will be conducted on a separate date.

What is the Whisky Ambassador Programme?

The programme is designed for both those in the licensed trade and others with an interest in learning more about Scotland in a Glass®.Businesses that have reported increased sales from staff taking the Whisky Ambassador are Radisson Blu Glasgow and Grand Central Hotel, Glasgow. Gleneagles Hotel includes the Whisky Ambassador course in its regular training schedule as they recognise the value of having staff with knowledge and confidence around whisky.

Since its strong start back in 2012, the Whisky Ambassador has gone from strength to strength, and we now licence trainers across 22 countries on 4 continents. Rather than focusing inwardly on Scotland, the Whisky Ambassador seeks to promote and further the already strong international reputation of Scotch whisky, expanding and sharing ours and whisky’s rich cultural history for others to enjoy. For those outside the licensed trade with an interest in whisky, they’ll find more than enough in our day-long course to further their knowledge and increase their enjoyment of ‘Scotland in a glass’®.

At the end of the course there is a 30 question multiple choice exam and a practical tasting test.

The Whisky Ambassador course covers:

  • Whisky by numbers
  • The basics – history, geography, production
  • Glassware, presentation and sales
  • Nosing and tasting
  • Drink less. Drink better
  • Mixers and cocktails
  • Other world whiskies

What can it achieve for your premises?

  • Uplift in sales (64% increase in whisky sales reported)
  • Increased profitability
  • Increased customer satisfaction
  • Better staff motivation

The Whisky Ambassador programme is a day-long, Industry-standard qualification, meaning that when delegates pass our exam, they are able to display the prestigious ‘The Whisky Ambassador’ BIIAB accredited certificate on their bar wall. Each delegate will also receive their unique lapel pin badge identifying them as a whisky ambassador.

Gin Ambassador

What is the Gin Ambassador Programme?

There’s no denying it – gin is in! Gin has seen a huge surge in popularity over the last few years, with a proliferation of new craft distilleries, unique and premium blends and international interpretations making it a very exciting market. To ensure you’re up to speed on the latest trends, as well as well versed in the basics, the history and the technicalities of gin, we’ve introduced the Gin Ambassador Programme.

The Gin Ambassador programme is a one-day programme that takes you on a gin journey covering:

  • Origins and history of gin through the centuries
  • Key production methods
  • Botanicals
  • Range of Gin styles
  • Gin cocktails
  • Perfect serve
  • Tasting

Along with sampling different gins in a variety of styles, you’ll also make your very own blend.

What is Gin?

Gin is far more than just a G&T. It can be sweet or savoury, depending on the botanicals used – today many gins use local or unusual botanicals. The tonic can also make a big difference and as more and more gins enter the market, tonic manufacturers are keeping pace, producing a spectrum of complementary flavours and styles.

What can we get from Gin Ambassador Programme?

Taste and analyse at least six gins, using tonics and garnishes to create the perfect combination. You’ll also taste a gin cocktail and discover recipes for a variety of cocktails, both classic and contemporary.

At the end of the programme there is a 30-question, multiple choice exam. Following successful completion, you will receive your prestigious Gin Ambassador certificate and lapel pin.

So, whether you work in hospitality or in the wine and spirit industry and would like to increase your professional skills – or you simply love gin – this programme is for you!
